Work and Play was a creative visual arts project for adults with learning disabilities who live in Shropshire. It was a three year project supported by the ‘Reaching Communities Fund’ of the Big Lottery.
The project was created to introduce individuals to the idea of working on their terms and to be self-directed in their approach, with support and guidance from a committed team of trained Fine Artists.
The creative support team invest energy and time into looking very carefully at the processes and behaviours that produce the artwork as well as looking closely at the work itself to determine where an individual’s strengths and interests may lie.
There is an honesty and integrity in the work created by our members as they have the ability to express their creativity without the restraint and that self-critical striving for perfection that often begets the trained artist.
